Unique expression of a highly conserved mycobacterial gene in IS901(super.+) Mycobacterium avium

Article Abstract:

A highly conserved mycobacterial gene and its unique expression in IS901(super.+) Mycobacterium avium have been studied. The gene encodes a novel protein antigen of 40 kDa (p 40) was seen in IS901(super.+) strains of M. avium, but not in any other species or subspecies of Mycobacterium tested, including those in the M avium complex. the p40 gene is the first example of one widely seen in the Mycobacterium genus, but expressed only where a genomic insertion element is, in this case IS901, in strains of M. avium from birds and domestic livestock.

Cloning and characterization of the gene encoding periplasmic 2',3'-cyclic phosphodiesterase of Yersinia enterocolitica O:8

Article Abstract:

The gene that encodes periplasmic 2',3'-cyclic phosphodiesterase of Yersinia enterocolitica O:8 (called cpdB) has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The enzyme enables Y. enterocolitica to grow on 2',3'-cAMP with no other source of carbon/energy. The CpdB mutant showed no significant change in virulence in an oral and intravenou mouse infection model.

Iron-induced changes in pyruvate metabolism of Tritrichomanas foetus and involvement of iron in expression of hydrogenosomal proteins

Article Abstract:

Iron-induced changes in pyruvate metabolism of Tritrichomanas foetus are discussed. Comparative biochemical data show iron to be essential for function of the hydrogenosome. A putative iron-dependent regulation of hydrogenosomal proteins occurs at the transcriptional level.
