Validation of hand-held bioelectrical impedance analysis with magnetic resonance imaging for the assessment of body composition in overweight women

Article Abstract:

The hand-held bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is the commonly used technique to determine the suitable body composition for clinical trials. The comparison between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and BIA to evaluate the body composition of overweight women shows that fat mass estimates of the two methods were correlated.

Raymond Pearl's legacy: the proper measure of man

Article Abstract:

Raymond Pearl advocated the employment of quantitative and statistical methods in biology, particularly human biology. Although he would be impressed on seeing the tremendous progress in statistical analysis, he would not let the dangers, associated in application of such powerful analytical tools, go unnoticed.

Empirical validation of an instrument to measure habitual physical activity in youth from Maputo, Mozambique

Article Abstract:

A questionnaire developed to monitor young people's physical activity in Maputo, Mozambique, was administered at two intervals a week apart. The 83% agreement between observations and the questionnaire suggests this form could be useful in assessing physical activity patterns of African youth.
