Viable androgenetic YY genotypes of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.)

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the genetics of sex determination in common carp by generating homozygous YY individuals using androgenetic reproduction methods. The viability of the YY genotype in the common carp was discussed from an evolutionary perspective. An X/Y congenic homozygous inbred strain was generated by repeatedly backcrossing male offspring to a female from a homozygous clone. Results indicated that chromosomal rearrangement during meiosis could generate sperm cells supporting X chromosomes with female sterility genes.

GGT: software for the display of graphical genotypes

Article Abstract:

The GGT computer program allows representation of molecular marker data through simple chromosome drawings in a number of ways. The program can also be used to select individuals with a preferred genotype. Its data files are derived from a locus file, with marker names and raw marker scores, and a linkage map file, which specifies marker positions on a linkage map. A separate locus file is needed for each linkage group. There is the option of specifying a desired (marker) genotype for several linkage groups.
