Who discovered actin?
Article Abstract:
The discovery of the muscle protein, actin, dates back to 18th century when Kuhne, Schipiloff, Danielevsky and T.H. Huxley isolated a substance that exhibits coagulation and contraction in isolated muscle extracts. Previously known as myosin-B, it was later renamed actomyosin by Hungarian F. Bruno Straub. Despite claims by Ilona (Ilus) Banga, Straub's laboratory assistant, of credit for actin's discovery, many still commend Straus for the discovery.
