Wnt signaling and an APC-related gene specify endoderm in early C. elegans embryos

Article Abstract:

Genetic and reverse genetic methods were employed to analyze the molecular mechanisms that cause the anterior-posterior polarity during P2 blastomere signaling in a four-cell stage Caenorhabditis elegans embryo. A group of genes have been identified with sequences similar to those of genes acting in Wnt/Wingless signaling pathways. Results also suggest that a subset of the genes influence the cytoskeletal polarity of some blastomeres.

Asymmetric cortical and nuclear localizations of WRM-1/beta-catenin during asymmetric cell division in C. elegans

Article Abstract:

The asymmetrical localization of WRM-1/beta-catenin and LIT-1 kinase in Caenorhabditis elegans to the anterior cell cortex before and during the division of post-embryonic cells is discussed. Cortical WRM-1 is released by Wnt signals from the posterior cortex for the generation of cortical symmetry for controlling WRM-1 asymmetric nuclear localization by regulating cell polarity.

Wnt signaling drives WRM-1/beta-catenin asymmetries in early C. elegans embryos

Article Abstract:

The regulation of WRM-1/beta-catenin during a Wnt-signaling-induced asymmetric cell division is examined. The findings reveal how Wnt signals direct the asymmetric localization of beta-catenin during polarized cell division.
