frazzled encodes a Drosophila member if the DCC immunoglobulin subfamily and is required for CNS and motor axon guidance

Article Abstract:

A P-lacZ gene locus at 49B, labeled as frazzled, was identified as a Drosophila member of the gen family of deleted in colorectal cancer (DCC). The frazzled mutated gene induces alterations in the development and function of the Drosophila nervous system after it is expressed in the axons and epithelia during embryogenesis. However, the DCC-related frazzled gene is not expressed in target tissues indicating its functional role as a mediator of cellular guidance via neuronal gene expression.

Centromeres take flight: Alpha satellite and the quest for the human centromere

Article Abstract:

Scientific evidences have revealed the important role of alpha satellite, also known as alphoid DNA, in centromere function. This is the only known DNA localized in the centromeric regions of all normal human chromosomes. Moreover, natural and artificial chromosome rearrangements have been used to localize human X and Y centromeres. However, these evidences failed to consider the role of nonalphoid DNAs.
