lacZ fusions report gene expression, don't they?

Article Abstract:

This article examines the conventional molecular biological tool, the lacZ fusions, geneticists use to study regulation of gene expression. Authors provide some cautionary notes to be aware of in such investigations, that reliable gene fusion data are obtained only when transcription start site is precisely determined.

Contribution of copper ion resistance to survival of Escherichia coli on metallic copper surfaces

Article Abstract:

The contribution of copper resistance mechanisms for the survival of Escherichia coli is examined. An improved test method is developed that has minimized the time of aqueous suspension of the cells and has mimicked bacterial contamination of copper touch surfaces.

The product of the ybdE gene of the Escherichia coli chromosome is involved in detoxification of silver ions

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that the ybdE gene in combination with ylcBD gene confers chromosomal silver resistance in Escherichia coli as revealed by the silver sensitivity exhibited by mutant strains lacking ybdE.
