A theoretical overview and extension of research on sex, gender, and entrepreneurship

Article Abstract:

The liberal feminist and social feminist theories are presented to contextualize a review of previous research on sex, gender and entrepreneurship. This review reveals a mixed evidence of sex-based discrimination and socialized gender differences in entrepreneurship. Women entrepreneurs had less experience managing employees, working in similar firms or starting up new enterprises despite having equal education with male counterparts. Women's companies also were smaller, had lower income growth and lower sales per employee.
