Subsidiary staffing in multinational enterprises: Agency, resources, and performance

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine the relationship between expatriate parent country national staffing and subsidiary performance, and how the relationship changes with cultural distance and over time using samples of Japanese multinational enterprises (MNEs). The study shows that cultural distance increases the tendency of MNEs to employ expatriate parent country nationals at the CEO, top management team, and workforce levels in overseas subsidiaries.
