The efficacy of action at a distance as a control mechanism in the construction industry when a trust relationship breaks down: an illustrative case study

Article Abstract:

A case study is used to investigate the collapse in a trust relationship between a geographically-remote project manager and his managing director. The project manager, encouraged by the firm's bonus structure, was able to deceive the managing director about financial performance. It is clear that remedial action was required in this case, including more expensive monitoring.
