Across the gap; traditional publisher meets Internet upstart: can marriage survive? It's remarkable how little they have in common--except needing the other; looking for word: 'stupid'
Article Abstract:
Harte-Hanks Communications Inc's $400,000 purchase of a 20% interest in SiteSpecific Inc is resulting in a personality clash between the two companies' CEOs. Harte-Hanks made the investment because it needed to develop an Internet strategy. SiteSpecific is a Web site developer that was formed in late 1995 and expects $2 million in revenue for its first year. However, the company expects a $200,000 to $300,000 net loss for the year. The company has tripled its staff and has already relocated its operations. Many of its young employees have never worked in a traditional corporate setting and mixing corporate cultures with the more traditional, established, Harte-Hanks can be stressful. They may not appreciate advice from Harte-Hanks executives on how to handle employees or select new office space. Harte-Hanks executives, on the other hand, find themselves seeking technology advice from people who are their own childrens' age.
