Adoption of workplace substance abuse programs: Strategic choice and institutional perspectives

Article Abstract:

The role of strategic choice, institutional factors, and media discourse with respect to substance adoption programs in influencing how managers address workplace substance abuse is examined. Suggestions are provided about when institutional versus strategic choice variables are most relevant to adoption of these programs, and also understanding of the timing of any period-specific effects.

Can business effectively regulate employee conduct? The antecedents of rule following in work settings

Article Abstract:

The antecedents of rule-following behavior among employees in an organization are explored. An extrinsically oriented command-and-control model and an intrinsically oriented self-regulatory model study of employees are compared to examine rule and policy adherence, and it is concluded that the influence of the self-regulatory strategy exceeds that of the command-and-control approach.
