Amalgamation on the agenda for CPA's new leader

Article Abstract:

Keith James, a lawyer and an accountant who integrated a tax practice into Hall and Wilcox, sees more merging of the accounting and legal practices in Australia with the goal of streamlining services and costs. As Victorian president of the Australian Society of Certified Public Accountants, James believes the organization should foster this integration. In managing his team, James fuses teamwork and on emphasis on group, rather than individual, fees.

Certified public accountants (CPAs) can defend their market share against the rising consumer use of electronic information by providing improved customer service in specialty niches. While some clients have turned to software to do accountancy procedures, others are willing to pay accountants for service value in areas such as tax consulting and valuations.
