Why McFarlane replaced Mercer

Article Abstract:

Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. appointed John McFarlane as managing director after Don Mercer was sacked. Cost cutting is vital if Australian banks are to competitively position themselves in increasingly globalized financial markets.
