American steel at the barricades; with prices low, companies and labor unite in a campaign to limit imports

Article Abstract:

Imported steel now holds a commanding 35 percent market share in the U.S. and Curtis Barnette, Bethlehem Steel's CEO, would like to turn that around and save America in the process. But many say that protectionism isn't the answer to a global problem; enforcing the 'dumping' rules could slow recovery of the world's most troubled nations which would affect many more areas than just steel in this country. There is also the reality that customers of steel, such as the auto makers, welcome the low prices.

Russia agrees to limit steel shipments avoiding antidumping duties by U.S

Article Abstract:

The limits the U.S. has imposed on the steel that Russia can export to our shores are tentative until U.S. steelmakers have a chance to react and provide feedback. The initial response is that steelmakers here are not happy with it. The U.S. is trying to impose limits of price and quantity without 'bringing Russia to its knees' during a time of economic turmoil in that country. U.S. steel executives seem to think it's an unfair compromise.
