Apple Computer boosts efforts in Japan to increase sales and attract investors

Article Abstract:

Apple Computer Inc is increasing efforts in Japan - trying to sell more microcomputers, looking for possible partners and seeking investors. According to Apple CEO John Sculley, the company is growing at more than a 100 percent rate annually in Japan, and Apple Japan will soon be Apple's largest subsidiary outside of the US. Apple Japan was founded in 1983. At a meeting of the company's board at Apple Japan's headquarters, Sculley will present his plan for increasing Japanese sales to $1 billion a year by the mid-1990s, four times the current figure. The Japanese microcomputer market is less developed than either the US or the European markets, but analysts believe that sales might take off in Japan, creating new opportunities for US companies.
