Apple's new items are made to back 'digital hub' view

Article Abstract:

At the 2001 San Francisco, CA MacWorld Trade fair, Apple Computer Inc. CEO Steve Jobs announced the company's raft of new software and hardware products designed to enhance the 'digital lifestyle.' Two of the new software products are iDVD, a DVD authoring software and iTunes, a software jukebox. Mar. 24, 2001 will see the release of the Mac OS X operating system. The upgraded Power Mac G4 desktop computer line was also introduced as was the Titanium PowerBook G4 laptop computer line.

Investors cheer as Phone.com, Software.com unveil merger plan

Article Abstract:

Investors responded to the $7.4 billion merger of Phone.com Inc. and Software.com Inc. by boosting shares of the former company 17%, the latter 32% the day of the announcement. Cisco Systems will own a minority stake in the merged entity via the company's stake in Software.com. Donald J. Listwin will leave Cisco to be the CEO of the new company into what is being touted as a leader in wireless Internet software.

Cendant to sell software unit to Havas S.A

Article Abstract:

Shifting gears from fast forward to reverse, Cendant is now selling rather than buying. Cendant Software has been out to bid and is expected to go to Havas SA, a French owned media company, for about $1 billion. A unit of utility company Vivendi, Havas will gain Sierra On-Line, Davidson and Blizzard Entertainment in the acquisition, presuming the deal gets all necessary approvals.
