Private equity investment in Australia is discussed. A number of private equity funds have entered the retail investment market since the beginning of 1999, allowing small investors to move into an area covering venture and development capital and management and leveraged buyouts.

Brokers lose plot on tech floats: underwriters who get listing prices wrong are giving investors a bonanza but denying vendors value

Internet, IT, media and telecommunications stocks floated in Australia in late 1999 and early 2000 have produced very large returns for investors. A large premium on listing benefits investors in a stock, but is a significant opportunity lost for the vendors.

Super rises to the top: two of the best performers, super funds and health insurers, have been boosted by government policy changes

Article Abstract:

There are eight superannuation funds among the top 20 in the 2001 Top 500 Private Companies ranking by revenue increase. These funds have benefited from money coming from compulsory employer super contributions. Government policy has also assisted the private health insurance sector.
