Avnet, 2 others to buy Veba Electronics, in sign of faster industry consolidaton

Avnet Inc, Arrow Electronics and an affiliate of Schroder PLC have formed a consortium to acquire Veba Electronics Group in Germany. This is a sign of more consolidation in the electronics industry to come.

DirecTV will buy PrimeStar, Tempo for $1.8 billion

Article Abstract:

El Segundo, Calif.-based satellite broadcaster DirecTV, owned by Hughes Electronics Corp., will purchase PrimeStar Inc. and Tempo for $1.8 billion cash and stock. In the process, DirecTV will add PrimeStar's 2.3 million U.S. subscribers to its own 4.5 million. While DirecTV continues its acquisition of U.S. Satellite Broadcasting Co., it claims it is on track to becoming profitable by the second half of 1999.
