Referred to as e-budgeting, where the 'e' stands for 'electronic' as well as 'enterprisewide,' this corporate service application can contribute to the operations and efficiency of an organization, and ultimately to its ability to plan for the future. An e-budgeting program can be used for individual applications although it is most effective when incorporated into financial systems, especially a general ledger application. This application minimizes administrative expenses and chores, increases service levels to employees, and enables the finance department to devote its energy on strategic thinking. Ultimately, budgeting becomes a management tool instead of simply being an accounting chore.

Relational databases: an accountant's primer

Article Abstract:

The relational database is an important tool for organizing data when they are stored. All information on the relational database management system (RDBMS) is rendered in a single manner only, as values in tables, to enable users to more easily access, understand and manipulate data. It requires a data language that can process whole tables to allow for queries and for data revision, insertion and deletion. Moreover, RDBMS does not call for users to change queries or application programs if there is a reorganization of database and no loss of information in the tables. Finally, it can generate logical tables from the base tables. RDBMS with these characteristic can perform mathematical operations and apply rigid logic to them, thereby removing typical deficiencies.
