Base closing recommendation made

The US Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission made public its fourth and final list of proposed military facility closures in June 1995. The commission's recommendations departed from Defense Dept recommendations on 24 bases. California is home to several of the bases to be closed.

Government attacks Khmer Rouge bases

Cambodian government troops Jan 29-Feb 2, 1993, attacked Khmer Rouge positions in the north-central and western regions of the country, then claimed to have retaken territory lost to the guerrillas since Oct 1991. The United Nations denied that the Khmer Rouge had extended their territory.

Aspin targets 31 military bases for closure; cutbacks set at another 134 bases

Les Aspin recommended the closure of 31 military bases and the consolidation or downsizing of 134 other bases on Mar 12, 1993. The closures would save the US approximately $3.1 billion annually beginning in 2000.
