Brown admits Vietnam link, denies bribe

Article Abstract:

Commerce Sec Ronald H. Brown has met with Nguyen Van Hao, a US businessperson who was born in Vietnam and who has connections with the government of Vietnam, three times since 1992. Brown claims he was not involved in a bribe to remove the US trade embargo against Vietnam.

Commerce Secretary Brown to face independent counsel

Article Abstract:

Janet Reno asked that an independent counsel be chosen to investigate Brown for possible conflict of interest relating to his business ventures. The investigation was sparked by Brown's sale of his stake in First International Inc to Nolanda Hill, his business partner.

Commerce Secretary Brown probed

The Justice Dept announced on Feb 16, 1995, that it was conducting an investigation into allegations that Commerce Sec Ron Brown committed tax and financial disclosure violations. The probe will focus on Brown's dealings with Nolanda Hill and First International Inc.
