Buyers turning to cable as ratings gap slims

Article Abstract:

Industry analysts anticipate that 1998 advertising revenues for national cable networks will expand by $1 billion as they surge upward toward a record $7 billion mark. Nielsen Media Research has reported a significant decline in the combined prime-time ratings for the network broadcasting giants, which include NBC, CBS, Fox and ABC, due to the rapid expansion of audiences for cable television. Industry analysts also noted a shift among media buyers toward cable television network advertising time.
