The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is the government's main inflation measure, and it forms the basis for most federal cost of living adjustments (COLAs), yet economists believe the CPI overstates inflation. Many influential politicians and economists, including Alan Greenspan, advocate CPI reform.

Double standard on the disabled

The optimistic triumph of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is being eroded by the escalating costs of federal disability insurance (DI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Reform of both programs to fund rehabilitation and employment is vital to save Social Security.

The idea of 'mandatory' Federal spending must be eliminated

Article Abstract:

Entitlement spending continues to grow and must be checked. Spending programs considered mandatory include Social Security, food assistance, federal pensions and veteran's benefits. A balanced budget amendment is needed to force legislators to make cuts in these programs.
