Shocking prospect

Article Abstract:

Some 60 children and adolescents (12 to 17-years-old) have received electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) over the last 10 years in NHS hospitals, according to research by Dr Caroline Lindsey, consultant psychiatrist. The findings do not include the private secto,; children which are not treated by child psychiatrists and older adolescents. The inappropriate use of ECT is also covered in a two-part special TV report on the ITV Link programme, in which Dr Steve Baldwin, clinical psychologist, appears. Baldwin believes that the use of ECT on people whose neurological system is still developing should be avoided.
