War's most innocent victim

Article Abstract:

The photo of a baby crying in a railroad station in Shanghai after an air raid by Japan in Aug 1937 was estimated to have been viewed by up to 136 million people worldwide by late 1938. Some 200 people including 15 infants reportedly died during this bombing. Pictures such as this elicited much international sympathy for China at that time. Despite controversy surrounding the photograph's authenticity, the truth of its portrayal of the massive destruction caused by bombing is indisputable.

Yanks in London

Article Abstract:

American firms are luring away employees from some top British and European investment firms. London is one of the world's most competitive financial markets. Membership in the Banker's Clearing House (BCH) can save a bank money because it allows a bank to clear its own checks without going through the United Kingdom. The London banking environment will probably be much different in the future. Credit Suisse First Boston is the current top performer on the London investment banking scene.
