WHAT goes to work on health promotion for small firms

Article Abstract:

The Department of Health (DoH) is to provide funding for two years for the Workplace Health Advisory Team (WHAT), which will assist companies which employ 10-200 people. It will be coordinated and managed by the Health Education Authority (HEA), and will be made up of health promotion experts. It will set up workplace programmes to help managers ot smaller companies in reducing absenteeism resulting from poor employee health.

A professional or specialist who is promoted into management has to move from focusing on the demands of their discipline to coping with complexities of organizational demands and responsibilities. Through a case study, an intervention is described to place the confusion in context and to create an opportunity for learning.
