Canadian energy industry

Article Abstract:

Business for Canada's energy industry will likely be weak due to the forecasted El Nino effect, which is expected to cause a warm winter season. Natural gas companies will be the hardest hit by the lower energy demand, although the long-term outlook for natural gas markets continues to be bright. The outlook for pipeline operators such as WestCoast Energy is good despite the cut in the allowable rate of return to 11.75% by the Canadian National Energy Board. Investments in Canadian energy stocks are not expected to do well over the near term.

Canadian energy industry

Article Abstract:

Canadian energy industry stocks, which performed well in 1996, are expected to provide investors with excellent returns in 1997 and continue on the upward track through 2001. Most Canadian energy companies have recorded strong earnings and cash flow records. Canadian natural gas company stocks should attract performance-minded investors while pipeline operator securities will be of special interest to investors seeking outstanding total returns.

Canadian energy industry

Article Abstract:

Worldwide oil prices, including Canadian, have been adversely affected by the pending return of Iraqi oil to market and increased production quotas set by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The natural gas market is also being damaged by El Nino, but this market is also expected to improve over the next three to five years. Canadian energy stocks are not timely for 1998, but several have potential through the years 2000-2002.
