Carrying out a successful privatization: the YPF case

Article Abstract:

The case of the Argentine national oil company Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales (YPF) serves as a guide for the success of other privatizations. Factors which contributed to its success include the redefinition of core functions and abolition of non-core business, structural reorganization in conformity with the core business, sale of the firm to private investors, established government standing on the issue and identification of groups which oppose the privatization and implementation of counter measures against them.

Building organizational capabilities in the Canadian energy sector

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the relationship between proactive environmental strategy and competitive advantage in Canada's energy industry. Twenty-seven managers from seven companies were interviewed between 1993 and 1994. Results indicated differences in the way firms employed environmental strategies. Companies were considered proactive if they consistently carried out environmental practices that were beyond those required by law or industry standards.

Competitive advantages and multinational enterprises in Latin America

Article Abstract:

US multinational enterprises (MNEs) in Latin America possess three competitive advantages which significantly impact on their performance. These are in the areas of proprietary technology, goodwill based on the firm's brand or company name and economies of scale in production. The three ranked highest among twelve competitive advantages that MNEs generally enjoy, according to a survey of corporate executives of US firmsoperating in the region.
