Celebrity firms: The social construction of market popularity

Article Abstract:

Theoretical framework elucidates why and how the media socially reconstruct firm celebrity and discuss the implications of achieving celebrity for firm performance. Celebrity is an intangible asset that provides firms with distinct benefits that affect their competitive positions as they take nonconforming actions and seek proactively to manage impressions, and caution managers to treat celebrity as a means to an end.

Enacting competitive wars: Competitive activity, language games, and market consequences

Article Abstract:

Research in industrial/organization economics and strategies management defines 'competitive wars' as periods of intensified competitive activity which tend to have negative performance consequences for the warring firms. A model of competitive wars is developed as a socio-linguistic process enacted through strategic actions, linguistic practices and shifts in resource allocations.

Constructing deal networks: Brokers as network earchitectsE in the U.S. IPO market and other examples

The concept of the network architect to extend theory explaining how brokers create and manage structured holes in mediated markets is introduced. A model is developed in the context of the U.S. initial public offerings market and then the arguments to other market contexts are generalized.
