Xerox's new leadership vows to boost firm's morale, but will stick to cutbacks

Article Abstract:

Xerox's new bosses have vowed to address rock-bottom morale and systemic problems after a year of layoffs, cost-cutting and the firing of chief G. Richard Thoman. President Anne Mulcahy and chairman Paul A. Allaire still have to brandish the fiscal knife in lieu of the company's 30% fall in operating income in the first quarter. Xerox has reinstated the popular tuition-reimbursement plan while cutting it's health insurance share to 87%. The company hopes to prevent high sales representative turnover, as well.

Cell-phone use aloft may not be the danger that airlines claim; no test confirms a hazard, but carriers and others profit from prohibition

Article Abstract:

It seems that airlines might be fibbing about usage of cellular telephones during flights. They say that it will cause interference to the operation of the plane. Also, cell phone companies have not come to the users rescue either. It seems that the carriers as well as the airlines have an economic advantage because carriers give discounts for phones installed on the planes. So who looses? The cellular telephone using passenger, that's who.
