Chief executive Sol Trujillo of Telstra Corporation Ltd. is restructuring wholesale and retail units to balance business revenues following competition from Optus. The feasibility of Telstra Corporation Ltd.'s restructuring efforts, and also the impact of the duopoly of the companies which will lead to consolidation of medium-size firms, is discussed.

Ziggy Switkowski, the chief executive of Telstra, outlined a goal to return to 4 percent industry growth rates by 2006, Telstra is currently growing at 1.8 percent and by the end of the decade Telstra is expected to offer high-bandwidth networks, all of them one megabit a second.
