Pres Clinton named Kantor to replace the late Ronald Brown as Commerce Secretary on Apr 12, 1996. He also named Barshefsky as acting US Trade Representative to replace Kantor, and Franklin D. Raines as director of the White House Office of Management and Budget to replace Alice Rivlin.

Baird's nomination for attorney general withdrawn: she steps down amid alien-hiring furor

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton on Jan 22, 1993, complied with a request by Baird that her name be withdrawn from consideration for attorney general. The nomination had come under intense criticism because Baird had knowingly hired illegal aliens and failed to pay social security taxes on their wages.
