Combining neural networks and statistical predictions to solve the classification problem in discriminant analysis

Article Abstract:

The feasibility of using a neural network and the Mahalanobis distance measure (MDM) statistical approach to assist decision makers in solving a wide variety of classification problems was evaluated. The neural network and the MDM method were combined using a special function and applied to the solution of several data sets. Results that the combination of a neural network with the MDM method provides more accurate composite predictions.

An industrial ocean-cargo shipping problem

Article Abstract:

A model of an industrial ocean-cargo shipping problem involving the delivery of bulk products from abroad to Atlantic Coast transshipment ports, and then overland to customers is presented. For it to be solvable, the problem is reduce to a stationary, deterministic and cyclical model. The solution to the problem is also presented.
