Competitive priorities in operations management

Article Abstract:

Scales developed for commonly accepted competitive priorities, cost importance, quality importance, delivery-time importance, and flexibility importance have been found to provide reliable data. An assessment of how well the scales capture the constructs they represent has shown that the constructs measured are valid. Moreover, results of comparisons between pairs of informants representing the same business suggest that the perceptual measures of competitive priorities and point estimates of routine, seemingly objective information are equally reliable.

Selecting a portfolio of technologies: an application of decision analysis

Article Abstract:

The Dept of Energy has the critical and complex decision-making task of choosing technologies for waste site remediation. A study was conducted to develop a decision support tool to help in decision-making to select the optimal portfolio. The model employs exponential attribute utility functions with an additive objective function. The model allows sensitivity analysis in the form of rainbow and tornado diagrams to show the consequences of changes in the values of the input variables.

A strategic, area-wide contingency planning model for oil spill cleanup operations with application demonstrated to the Galveston Bay area

Article Abstract:

A strategic area-wide contingency planning model has been developed to assess potential locations and minimize costs of oil spills. This model, which was applied to the Galveston Bay area in Texas, proved to be an effective decision tool to design and prepare contingency plans for cleanup operations for oil spills. The general integer programming model also recommends a total cost plan for constructing new storage locations or expanding present facilities.
