In new twist, Microsoft says it was 'set up.'

Article Abstract:

Microsoft Corp adopts a new strategy in its antitrust trial, suggesting that it was set up in a meeting with Netscape, the company's competitor. The Government alleges that at that meeting, which occurred on Jun 21, 1995, Microsoft proposed an unlawful division of the Web browser market. In a fourth day of cross-examining Netscape CEO James Barksdale, Microsoft lawyer John Warden asked if the Jun 21 meeting was not held for the purpose of creating an incident to provoke the Justice Department into an action against Microsoft. Warden backed up this notion by pointing out that the Justice Department issued a subpoena for information on the day after the meeting. Barksdale characterized this line of reasoning as 'absurd.'
