Consumer behavior and emotions

Article Abstract:

New studies are questioning the role of rationality in consumer behavior and are focusing their research on the functions of emotions in consumer behavior. Marsden and Littler (1998) discussed alternative perspectives of consumer behavior, particularly the interpretive and postmodern approaches. Meanwhile, Richins (1997) refined the measurement of emotions in marketing by focusing on the detailed emotions displayed before, during and after purchases. Elliott (1998) also narrated an alternative approach to consumer the analysis of the consumer decisionmaking process. His Emotional Driven Choice situates consumers' interaction and decisionmaking in the social and cultural context. Finally, Luce (1998) looked at consumers' response to the tradeoff between personal goals and product attributes.
