Controllers on the firing line

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of controllers' performances should be measured and evaluated to ensure that they respond to the needs and expectations of management. The basis of evaluation should be to use attributes and performance indicator checklists evaluating all areas of controllers' performances including general accounting, purchasing and accounts payable, and personnel and payroll. The evaluation of general accounting should include analysis of: categorization of data; data accumulation and storage; and journal entry processing. The evaluation of purchasing and accounts payable should include analysis of: requisitioning; vendor selection analysis; and purchase order processing. The evaluation of personnel and payroll should include analysis of: recruiting practices; job application processing; and appointment, promotion, transfer, and termination procedures.
