Corporate-law yawn may be a sleeper

Article Abstract:

The Corporate Law Economic Reform Bill was introduced in Australia's Parliament by Treasurer Peter Costello on Jul 2, 1998. The bill proposes changes in laws governing takeovers, raising funds, accounting standards and board directors' operations. The aim of the bill is to ensure that Australia becomes the major business force in the Asia/Pacific area.

Issues concerning the necessity for the old Australian stockbrokers company JBWere to modernize are discussed. Particular attention is given to the firm's tendency to employ specialists from other stockbroker companies and to improving fund manager's selling techniques.
