Correlates of success in family business transitions

Article Abstract:

Successful management transition in family-owned and -managed businesses are determined by three factors: the nature of relationship between family members; the management preparation provisions for heirs; and internal planning and control mechanisms institutionalized in the business. These three factors impinge on the significant determinants of the firm's success, such as the time horizons of management, the degree of job security, the decision making centralization and the accountability and the degree of influence the family exerts on the business.

Sluggish giants, sticky cultures, and dynamic capability transformation

Article Abstract:

Research into whether large and cultural dominant companies can alter their capabilities over time is presented. It is concluded that, in a dynamic environment, size is not a material factor in negative performance.

The hidden hand and the license raj to an evaluation of the relationship between age and the growth of firms in India

Article Abstract:

The relationship between firm age and growth for a large sample of Indian firms are examined. The 'license raj' firms are not capable of succeeding in India, as shown by the negative age and growth relationship.
