Czechoslovak vote boosts Slovak nationalist Meclar

Article Abstract:

The right-wing Civic Democratic Party won a plurality of Federal Assembly seats in the June 1992 elections in Czechoslovakia. Movement for a Democratic Slovakia won a plurality of regional seats. The election made Vaclav Klaus and Vladimir Meclar the country's two most important politicians.

Czech and Slovak leaders agree to dissolve federation

Article Abstract:

Vaclav Klaus and Vladimir Meclar agreed to form a temporary government in Czechoslovakia and to begin negotiations to divide the nation into two separate countries. The abrupt decision on the national split surprised both Czechoslovaks and the international community.

Czech, Slovak leaders agree on plan for separate states

Article Abstract:

Vaclav Klaus and Vladimir Meciar agreed to divide Czechoslovakia into two independent states by late Sep 1992. Hungary asked the Slovak Republic to authorize the autonomy of ethnic Hungarians in Slovakia.
