DARWin: the evolution of data collection

Article Abstract:

Johnson and Johnson relies on a unique data collection tool known as Data Analysis and Reporting in Windows (DARWin) to accurately gather information from its subsidiaries on a timely basis. Through this system, hundreds of Johnson and Johnson subsidiaries around the world no longer have to report to corporate headquarters completely. Instead, they can just report information on a database which can be accessed anytime it is needed. The Corporate Controller's Division, which was responsible for the design of the system, chose the fourth-generation tool Progress to be the language of DARWin for its portability to different hardware platforms and the vendor's commitment to worldwide customer service and support. The application is PC-based and can be executed on a local area network for multiuser environments.

Regulating drug prices: where do we go from here?

Article Abstract:

Such cases are most likely to occur since provision of pharmaceuticals under publicly funded healthcare systems is influenced by informational asymmetries between doctors, patients and the government. Price regulation is tasked to lessen pharmaceutical expenses as market suppliers posses some temporary monopolies through patents.
