Decomposition and nondifferentiable optimization with the projective algorithm

Article Abstract:

An alternative decomposition method for linear programming based on N. Karmarkar's projective algorithms is used to solve nondifferentiable optimization problems. The approach is based on the generation of cutting planes at the analytic centers of 'sets of localization.' The proposed decomposition technique shows indications of a more favorable performance when compared numerically with the classic decomposition method of G.B. Dantzig and P. Wolfe. Vital to the successful implementation of the proposed technique is the treatment of new columns or, to the same extent, the ability to return to sets of localization subsequent to the generation of cutting planes.

Monitoring An Input-Output Model for Production: I. The Control Charts

Article Abstract:

Control charts are used to monitor the level and variance of industrial product quality control. Methods are given for monitoring the stability of an input-output model through time with a view towards maintaining efficient resource use. When a process is not in control due to changes in some coefficients, monitoring shifts to a diagnostic mode to identify the changed coefficients. Tables with numerical results are included.
