Dell forms unit to market Web hosts, servicers

Article Abstract:

Dell Computer Corp. has formed a new sales and marketing unit to sell its products and form alliances with Internet-service, Web-hosting and online-software providers. Judi L. Webster has been named vice president and general manager. Dell will use its manufacturing capability to provide speedy delivery of customized products with software already installed. The division aims to make sure that Dell products are in the running whether a customer buys servers or outsources its operations to a Web-hosting or application-service company.

Dell to offer hosting of small-business Web sites

Article Abstract:

As part of its E-Works initiative, Dell has launched a Web site hosting service for small business called Dellhost.com. The company will resell services of some of some of the ISPs that buy its servers. The site hosting market is expected to grow from $2 bil in 1999 to $17 bil in 2003. Interliant Inc. will provide the Internet connection for Dell customers for $18 to $300 a month.

Dell profit rises, but sales growth slows

Article Abstract:

Dell Computer's net income for the second quarter is $603 million, 19% over the last quarter. Personal computers' sales are down but server computers' sales growth is strong. Dell missed it's yearly revenue forecast of $200 million because of slower sales to the U.S. government and European markets. The company has 11% of the global server market.
