Laws relating to employers' management of personnel are discussed. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prevents employee discrimination; the Family and Medical Leave Act entitles employees to 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year on the birth or adoption of a child; and the Fair Labor Standards Act deals with overtime payment requirements.

The ESOP option. Is it you?

Article Abstract:

The advantages and disadvantages of offering employee stock ownership plans (ESOP) in private business are detailed. All the earnings of the company is exempted from tax if the company is owned by ESOP. The working of such plan through a trust created legally by the employer is also presented.

Federal family and medical leave act (FMLA)

Article Abstract:

The FMLA act is a Federal law aimed at providing protection to employees and their dependents from job loss for availing leave on medical grounds. The obligations of both the employers and the employees in respect of the act are examined.
