Article Abstract:

The Federal Reserve Board has lowered borrowing rates five times since summer of 2007 in an attempt to improve the economy which was weakened by housing downturn and financial market crisis. The Fed's actions are also aimed at preventing a recession which is expected to happen in 2008. Forecasts for the stock market are also provided.

The United States economy is not performing well due to the housing crisis, weakness in retail trade and decline in industrial production. The Federal Reserve Board has already cut interest rates twice, but the econonic condition may induce another rate cut. Forecasts for the stock market are also supplied.
