Article Abstract:

Reports on the declining levels of manufacturing activity, rising unemployment rate, and a dour retail backdrop makes it increasingly likely that U.S. gross domestic product will see negligible growth for the first half of 2008. The odds of a recession for 2008 has grown to about a one in two chance while the interest rate could be brought down to 3 percent by the Federal Reserve to stave off a recession.

The economy is strong in sales of cars, general merchandise, clothing manufacturing and service sectors, although there is no significant rise in demand. Different factors like the gains in the job market may keep Fed from raising interest rates and the stock market uncertainties in the strength of earning is discussed.

The Federal Reserve Board lowered the federal fund target to 4.75% and also trimmed the discount rate by 5.25%. The stock market's current levels are a sign that a recession will not occur in late 2007.
