Electric utility (west) industry

Article Abstract:

Stocks of the electric utility industry in the Western states continued to underperform the market in 1999 and early in the year 2000. The industry is still heavily regulated on a state by state basis, even though deregulation is a notable trend. These stocks are still not timely for the year 2000, but several have potential for the next three to five years.

Article Abstract:

Most of the electric utility companies in the western US have been affected by the continuing power crisis in California. Many of these companies have also diversified into areas other than electric power production. Investors need to evaluate these stocks on an individual basis prior to making a commitment.
