Engineering and marketing: their worlds run together

Article Abstract:

Consulting engineering and marketing have become complementary disciplines within firms. This reality is aptly illustrated in the experience of TouchTunes Music Corp. The firm, which markets the world's first digital downloading jukeboxes, transformed its sales department into a process-oriented unit that coordinated a series of sales/marketing tactic-bolstered organizational strategies between apparently disparate departments such as engineering, marketing and accounting. This coordination was made possible through the use of project management techniques.

Planning, executing, and closing the sale

Article Abstract:

Any sales transaction can be considered a project with a life cycle and a deadline. Thus, planning, executing and closing complex sales transactions call for the use of project management techniques to ensure the successful completion of the sales cycle. Project management methods are especially useful in sales transactions involving business-to-business, high-technology sales, where a variety of resources are required to complete such transactions.
