Project management meets marketing and sales

Article Abstract:

Marketing and sales professionals can develop competitive advantages for their employers by integrating acknowledged marketing theories with the functions of implementation, tracking and control in project management. This is because project management provides a systematic method of bringing creative thinking to a timely, cost-effective execution. A number of marketing and sales professionals recount their experiences in applying the discipline of project management to their fields.

Project managers have the most significant position in a project and carry the overall responsibility for its success. Duties of effective project managers include assuming full responsibility and accountability for the project, applying lessons learned in previous projects to the existing one, defining project roles and responsibilities, leading project planning activities, conducting project monitoring and adopting project management best practices.


Customer relationship management systems (CRM) can be used by sales professionals to successfully structure the sales process and establish continuing account support procedures. CRM systems are difficult to implement, however, and the success of their introduction rests mainly in the initiation phase. Project management techniques can make for a properly executed initiation phase that will provide a strong foundation to build upon in future phases.

Customer relationship management systems (CRM) can be used by sales professionals to successfully structure the sales process and establish continuing account support procedures.
